Our member spotlight this month features Angela Ledding from PACE Loan Group. Angela was recently recognized as one of Finance & Commerce's 2025 honorees for Top Women in Finance.
1. How long have you been in the PACE industry and what is your professional background, or route did you take to get here? What drew you to PACE?
This October, it will be four years in C-PACE and working at PLG. I call myself a recovering banker as my prior career spanned more than 15 years in that industry, focusing on the Commercial Lending world. How I got here, well, I came to PACE, and specifically PLG, because of the people and it was a good complement to my banking background. Have you ever been in a circumstance where you thought, “Wow, I wish I could work with people like that?” I was after meeting with Rafi Goberstien and Bali Kumar, and well, here I am! I love that I’m still working in CRE Finance, doing things that benefit the human environment, and working with people I consider some of the best out there. It’s a job I consider myself beyond fortunate to hold.
2. Where does your company/organization/agency fit in the PACE market? What is your unique value?
PACE Loan Group (PLG) is a capital provider in the C-PACE arena. We are active in all C-PACE enabled states and what makes us truly unique is that borrowers have direct access to the decision makers. While we do have the backing of institutional capital, we call our own shots when it comes to lending decisions, there is no third party approval to seek before moving forward. It ensures certainty of close for our borrowers and speeds up the process.
3. What is the best piece of advice you would give to someone new to PACE?
I would tell a new person “Know your admins!” They live, breathe and sleep their programs. They are your best source for the nuanced insight you’ll need to get complex deals to the closing line and to manage them after the fact if things don’t go quite to plan. Talk to them early, talk to them often.
4. What are you most excited about for the future of PACE?
I am always impressed to see the interesting applications that are being found to apply this innovative tool to. It’s expanding to fill the gap left by other, more traditional products as they are being pulled back by banks. When I started with PLG, news about a $50M C-PACE loan was BIG news. Now that’s almost common place, with C-PACE numbers readily top seven digits. Seeing all the different solutions C-PACE is now providing as it is applied to unique RE assets rather than just standard Multi Fam, Office and Retail is kind of thrilling.
5. What book would you recommend for 2025 reading?
I tend to be a voracious reader with several books going at any time. If a person hasn’t read it, I’d really recommend Yuval Noah Harari’s “Sapiens, A Brief History of Humankind,” it’s very well written and I found it thought provoking. On the more fun side, the “Thursday Murder Club” series by Richard Osman has some clever twists and has made me laugh out loud.
6. Favorite thing to watch (on TV, streaming)?
My household has been on a British TV kick lately, so Task Master and British Baking Show are topping our charts right now.
7. Which PACE industry colleague would you like to give a shout out to in acknowledgement for their work?
I would love to give a shout out to Daniel Graves of Polsinelli. His focus on C-PACE in his law practice has been invaluable to PLG as we navigate the legal in’s and out’s of the various programs we have had the good fortune to work within. Plus, he has an excellent sense of humor to go with all the brain power. Thanks for all the insights and guidance!
